In the current era, the sun is set against the backdrop of the constellation of Capricorn during January 14 and February 13. The sun sign is indicative of the manner in which the individual finds expression, for it is the source of the life force. The solar energies absorb and reflect the characteristics of the sign in which the sun finds itself: and the individual born at this time of the year will find that, at heart, he or she embodies Capricornian traits. The other two most important personal factors within the birth chart are the Ascendant and Moon. If either of these are positioned within the Capricorn field of influence, then the individual will also find that he or she reflects Capricornian traits, as would anyone with Saturn significantly placed in their chart.

The symbolism of Saturn finds its best expression in the concept of that essential substance which holds the fabric of life together. For it is through discipline and experience that the lessons of life are taught. It gives form and shapes the notions of what is important in life. It structures society and, in its best form, represents success through hard work. In the negative manifestation, the responsibilities of life may become overwhelmingly difficult for the individual to bear. Capricorn embodies the essential principles of Satum, indicating that responsibility, sobriety and propriety are ingrained in their personality. During childhood, responsibility was placed upon them at an early age, ensuring that their perspective of responsibility was coloured with strong emotions. These may have been discouraging experiences affecting Capricorn’s sense of self-esteem.

Capricorn’s father is a significant factor in the development of his or her personality, with circumstances focusing attention on responsibility, form and work. These circumstances can be negative or positive in character. It may be that Capricorn was separated from the father figure through physical limitations or simply through a lack of emotional rapport, manifesting the negative potential of the Capricorn influence. Alternatively, there may have been a tremendously positive bonding. In either case, there developed an overly serious side to their nature due to these circumstances, with Capricorn finding it necessary to strengthen their self esteem, both inwardly and outwardly. Responsibility would have been oppressive to a child but, through great inner stamina, Capricorn accepted these responsibilities and consequently learned a great deal about life, despite the depressive moods that are characteristic of Saturn’s influence.

Capricorn’s stamina is strengthened by experience, making them strong and resolute. They are not easily swayed by the opinions of others for they already have their own definite opinions on various matters. Capricorn respects authority for the form and structure it gives society, but they prefer to bow to no greater authority than their own. Consequently, it is quite probable that Capricorn will hold a position of authority in life, in which the fruits of success will be the results of their own hard work. Because they are sincere, discreet and considerate, they have the respect of many other individuals. They also have good organisational ability because of their methodical approach to life, which is so characteristic of an earth sign. Such abilities assist them on their continuing climb to success. Just as the symbolic goat of Capricorn is adaptable to mountainous territory, so they too will persevere until they overcome any obstacle on their path to the pinnacle of achievement.

Tradition and status are also important to Capricorn because they provide stability in their life, as well as a motivation for working. However, because of their serious and methodical approach to life, they sometimes become caught in a rut. There are times when an innovative approach becomes the answer to those confounding problems. At times, they need to take a step back from problematic situations so they can see things more clearly. Capricorn must not be too hard on themselves as everyone needs a break, sometime, in order to wipe the cobwebs from the mind. Although, through adulthood Capricorn tends to have great physical stamina, this same aspect tends to expose them to hard work (usually self imposed) which then depletes their physical energy levels. Placing excessive strain on their physical body leaves Capricorn drained and vulnerable to colds, flu and infection and stress related problems connected to the heart and back. It is important for Capricorn to balance their life better so that they can still achieve their goals whilst maintaining a healthy body and outlook on life.
